Do not be afraid…

big trouble - Isaiah 43 - do not be afraid

The Lord says to you and me … “Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name; you are mine. When you go through deep waters and great trouble, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown! When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you. For I am the Lord, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Saviour. You are honoured and I love you. Do not be afraid, for I am with you” (Isaiah 43:1-5).

The Word of God is reliable. Make it your platform for living. Acting upon His truth keeps us ‘above’ our circumstances.

Standing strong in the midst of trials

We never need to be paralysed by the difficulties we face in life.

We have the privilege of praying to a loving and understanding Father who knows our circumstances. As well as knowing what we are facing, He is ever present to guides us through each and every difficulty, commanding victory for us in every situation.

When our faith, hope and love are fixed on the Lord, we can face any difficulty or problem that comes our way, and the Lord will give us joy and peace within.

  • REQUEST: In Psalm 5, David’s reaction to the difficulty he faced was to make a request to the Lord through speechless groaning and crying-out  to ‘hear’ him (Psalm 5 v 1-3), and ‘lead’ him (Psalm 5 v 8).
  • REASON: The reason for David’s request is respect for the holiness of God (Psalm 5 v 4-6), who stands against the wicked, and the wickedness of man (Psalm 5 v 9,10).
  • RESPONSE: The right response by believers in the midst of trials is ‘rejoicing in faith, love and hope’ (Psalm 5 v 11,12). Joy comes from trusting in the Lord and loving Him. Joy and peace is what results from trusting in the Lord. It’s what God does ‘in’ us – it does not result from circumstances on the outside. To experience joy and peace, never look to your outside circumstances, but look only to the Lord.

Throughout our earthly lives, we must expect difficulty – this is the ‘norm’ for mankind. If we want to stand strong in the midst of trials, we must not run from our trials, but to the Lord … bringing to Him our righteous requests, with the right reason, and with a right response.

Driving out the fears of life

I don’t know about you, but battling against fears can be quite wearisome. I would like to kick-start 2012 with a coaching comment  that might help to strengthen you and your family as you face the ‘normal’ fears of life. Fears are from satan. Fears are intended to intimate and weaken us in our walk with the Lord … causing us to turn back , stop, and give-up in our spiritual journey.

“Driving out the fears of life” – Psalm 112

V1: Praise the Lord! Happy are those who fear the Lord. Yes, happy are those who delight in doing what He commands.
V2: Their children will be successful everywhere; an entire generation of godly people will be blessed.
V3: They themselves will be wealthy, and their good deeds will never be forgotten.
V4: When darkness overtakes the godly, light will come bursting in. They are generous, compassionate, and righteous.
V5: All goes well for those who are generous, who lend freely and conduct their business fairly.
V6: Such people will not be overcome by evil circumstances. Those who are righteous will be long remembered.
V7: They do not fear bad news; they confidently trust the Lord to care for them.
V8: They are confident and fearless and can face their foes triumphantly.
V9: They give generously to those in need. Their good deeds will never be forgotten. They will have influence and honour.
V10. The wicked will be infuriated when they see this. They will grind their teeth with anger; they will slink away, their hopes thwarted.

Friends, we can overcome:

  • Family fears (v2)
  • Financial fears (v3)
  • Darkness fears (v4)
  • Future/change fears (v6)
  • Bad news fears (v7), and
  • Enemy fears (v8)

With the Lord’s help, we can drive out each and every fear that we encounter in 2012.
